“I didn’t think he’d do it. I really didn’t think he would.” That’s how I open my book, with a short “midrash” – a short readers and writer’s response to the story in the context of all the Abraham stories that come before.. And then, in the next chapter, I introduce the author of Genesis 22 and the writing of the story.   The introduction to the Book of Abraham still maintains it was “Translated From The Papyrus, By Joseph Smith” (Pearl of Great Price, The Book of Abraham, Introduction). Current claims the Book of Abraham was not translated from the papyri deny over years of Mormon teaching on the subject (and the very words of Joseph himself).

The Book of Abraham provides clarification and elaboration of a number of key Restoration tenets. Coming at the end of Smith’s life, these particular scriptures helped complete his temple theology and flesh out the cosmic drama that provides Mormonism with its comprehensive human saga. I read this book 3 times over the last 10 years and everytime it impressed me more. It's beautifully written and very detaillistic. It tells the story of a Jewish family from the time of the tribe father Abraham until present times. Never before have I read a book on Jewish history with this much detailed s:

This is Part 1 of a three-part document. This page deals primarily with the question of the source of the Book of Abraham (now available online at ). Part 2 deals with the content of the book and Joseph Smith's comments on three Egyptian drawings that have been attached to the published Book of Abraham. Part 3, "Ancient Records Offer New Support for the Book of Abraham," looks at some. The Saga of the Book of Abraham Reviewer James R. Harris A quick glance over the preface and chapters two and three of The Saga of the Book of Abraham may lead to the hasty decision that the reader is once again confronted with the usual rehashing of the same old, tiresome things.

The book came in a timely manner and was in better than advertised condition. Almost the entire book is a saga - the story of what was known about the origins, travels and destinations of the mummies and papyri associated with the Book of Abraham.

This is one of the first books about the papyri and is reasonably difficult to find.5/5(1). The Book of Abraham is a work produced between and by Joseph Smith based, he said, on Egyptian papyri purchased from a traveling mummy exhibition.

According to Smith, the book was "a translation of some ancient records [ ] purporting to be the writings of Abraham, while he was in Egypt, called the Book of Abraham, written by his own hand, upon papyrus".
